A roadside memorial stone & plaque remember the crew of 61 Sqn Lancaster W4236 QR-K which came down close to this location on 10/08/43

The aircraft had departed Skellingthorpe at 2310 on 09/08/43 for Ops Mannheim.

It was intercepted at 4200M nr Marbehan by a Nightfighter captained by Lt Norbert Pietrek (2/NJG4) and shot down at 0131 on 10/08/43 for his 3rd Abschuss.

The aircraft crashed at Marbehan with the loss of all seven crew.
