In a rural location a memorial plaque remembers the crew of 50 Sqn Lancaster LM628 VN-M who were killed when their aircraft crashed at this site on 06/11/44

The aircraft had departed Skellingthorpe at 1619 for Ops Gravenhorst. (target was the Mittelland & Dortmund-Ems Kanal)

It was inercepted S of Zwolle by a Night fighter captained by Nachtjagd "Experten" Hptm Werner Baake (Stab I/NJG1) and shot down at 1923 for his 34th Abschuss.

The aircraft crashed near Heerde with the loss of all seven crew.
