In the village cemetery and adjacent to his CGGC War Grave, an information board remembers P/O C.J. Foy RCAF who was killed on 25/07/44

He was the Rear Gunner on 61 Sqn Lancaster LM481 QR-Q which had departed Skellingthorpe for Ops St-Cyr.

Over the target area, a bomb dropped from an aircraft higher up in the Bomber Stream, struck the aircraft and sheared-off the entire rear turret which plunged to the ground with the unfortunate Air Gunner inside.

The aircraft returned to the UK and made a safe emergency landing at base.
